How to Keep a Rose Gold Finish Looking New
A coated finish is durable, not indestructible. The simple daily and weekly routine that keeps both the edge sharp and the colour bright for years.
A good rose gold or gold finish will outlast plenty of plain scissors — if you treat it like the tool it is. None of this is hard; it just has to be consistent.
Every client
Wipe the blades with a soft, dry cloth to clear hair and product. The one thing to be careful with is colour and bleach — don’t let it sit on the finish. A quick wipe is all it takes.
End of the day
Clean fully, dry completely, and put a single drop of scissor oil at the pivot. Open and close a few times to spread it. Then store them dry. Moisture, not use, is what marks a finish and dulls an edge — a damp drawer is the enemy, especially in humid or coastal parts of Australia.
Weekly
Check the tension: hold the scissor vertical, open the top blade to 90 degrees and let go. It should close gently, not slam. Adjust the screw if it’s loose.
Sharpening
When the edge needs servicing, send it to someone who sharpens convex edges. A good technician hones the edge without touching the coated body, so the colour stays intact. Avoid abrasive pastes and harsh chemical dips. The full routine lives in our care guide, and if you’d rather post them in, see our sharpening service.
Look after a designer pair like this and the finish will still look the part long after a neglected satin pair has gone dull and spotted.
