Looking After Coated & Rose Gold Scissors
A simple routine that protects both the edge and the finish.
A coated finish is durable, not indestructible. This routine keeps both the edge and the colour in good shape.
Every client
Wipe the blades with a soft, dry cloth to clear hair and product. Avoid leaving colour or bleach on the finish.
Daily
Clean fully, dry completely, and place a drop of scissor oil at the pivot. Open and close to spread it. Store dry — moisture, not use, is what dulls and marks a finish.
Weekly
Check the tension: hold the scissor vertical, open the top blade to 90° and let go; it should close gently, not slam. Adjust the screw if needed.
Sharpening
A coated scissor is sharpened on its edge, which a good technician hones without touching the coated body. Use someone experienced with convex Japanese edges. Avoid abrasive pastes and harsh chemicals on the finish.
