Designer Scissor Authenticity Checklist
How to tell a real tool from a novelty.
A statement finish is only worth it on a scissor that cuts. Run these six checks before you buy anywhere.
- Named steel and hardness. A real tool tells you the steel (e.g. 440C, VG-10, ATS-314) and ideally an HRC. We list both on every product.
- Even, bonded finish. The colour should be uniform with no flaking, bubbling or thin patches near the edge.
- Smooth, adjustable tension. A proper screw or dial — not a fixed rivet — and a smooth pivot with no grinding.
- Clean edge geometry. A crisp, even convex or bevel edge that meets cleanly along the blade.
- Brand markings. Legible engraving or etching of the maker and model.
- A warranty. Quality makers stand behind the tool.
If a pair fails these, you are buying a novelty. Everything in our range is curated to pass them.
